Laser Hair Removal by Treatment Area: Underarms, Face, Legs and Back

Scroll

Every area of the body behaves differently under a laser. Hair is coarser in some places and finer in others, it grows back at different speeds, and the areas vary enormously in size. That changes how long a session takes, how far apart sessions are spaced, and what it costs.

This is a practical guide to the four areas people ask about most. All of them are treated at New You Laser in Midtown Manhattan on the Candela GentleMax Pro, a dual wavelength system suitable for a wide range of skin tones.

How Areas Are Grouped and Priced

Rather than a separate price for every part of the body, areas are grouped by size:

  • Small areas: $29 a session, $119 for six. Lip, chin, cheeks, jawline, sideburns, forehead, ears, nose, hands and fingers, feet and toes
  • Medium areas: $49 a session, $199 for six. Underarms, shoulders, upper arms, lower arms, front and back of the neck, bikini line
  • Large areas: $69 a session, $279 for six. Full face, chest, stomach, upper back, lower back, buttocks, upper legs, lower legs
  • Full regions: full arms $99 a session or $399 for six, full back and full legs $109 a session or $499 for six

Combination packages covering several areas start at $399 for six sessions each, and every combination includes six sessions on one further area. New clients receive 50% off a first session. Current combination pricing and offers are listed in full.

Underarms

The most popular area to treat, and one of the most satisfying, because the hair is usually dark and coarse, which is exactly what the laser responds to best.

Sessions are short, often under fifteen minutes. The skin here is thin and a little more sensitive than an arm or a leg, but the area is small enough that it is over quickly.

The practical benefit people notice first is not the hair. It is the end of daily shaving in a spot that is awkward to reach and prone to irritation, and the fading of the shadow that constant shaving leaves behind.

Priced as a medium area: $49 a session, $199 for six.

Face

Facial hair is where the most care is needed, for two reasons.

First, the face is hormonally influenced, more so than almost anywhere else on the body. Growth on the chin, upper lip and jawline can be affected by hormonal changes, which means results often build more gradually here and some clients continue with occasional sessions after the initial course.

Second, facial hair is frequently finer and lighter than body hair, and the laser works by targeting pigment. Dark, coarse facial hair responds well. Fine or light hair responds more slowly, and your specialist will tell you honestly what to expect before you commit to a course.

Individual areas such as the upper lip, chin or sideburns are treated as small areas. A full face is treated as a large area. Sessions on the face are usually spaced more closely than body areas, because facial hair cycles faster.

Individual areas: $29 a session, $119 for six. Full face: $69 a session, $279 for six.

Legs

Legs are the area where the time saved adds up fastest. They are also large, so sessions take longer in the chair, usually somewhere between thirty minutes and an hour depending on whether you are treating upper, lower or full legs.

Leg hair grows comparatively slowly, which means sessions are spaced further apart here than on the face. That is normal and it is not a sign that anything is going slowly; it is the growth cycle of the area setting the schedule.

Many people treat lower legs first, since that is the part most often visible, then extend upward.

Upper or lower legs: $69 a session, $279 for six. Full legs: $109 a session, $499 for six.

Back and Shoulders

The back is the area where laser has the clearest practical advantage over everything else, for the simple reason that it is the hardest area to maintain yourself. Shaving your own back is difficult and waxing it means an appointment every few weeks, indefinitely. A course reduces the hair instead of removing it repeatedly.

Back hair is typically coarse and dark, which the laser handles well. Like legs it is slower growing, so sessions are spaced further apart.

Shoulders are treated separately from the back and are often added to a back course, since the two meet and most people want the line between them to look natural.

Upper or lower back: $69 a session, $279 for six. Full back: $109 a session, $499 for six. Shoulders: $49 a session, $199 for six.

Why Spacing Differs Between Areas

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles in their active growth phase. The length of that cycle varies by area: facial hair moves through it quickly, leg and back hair much more slowly.

That is why your specialist sets a different interval for each area rather than booking everything on the same rhythm. Treating an area again before the next group of follicles has entered active growth simply retreats hair that has already been addressed.

Treating Several Areas Together

Most people treat more than one area, and it is worth grouping them deliberately. Combining neighboring areas in a single visit keeps the total lower than booking each one separately, and it means one appointment rather than several.

The combinations that come up most often are underarms with bikini, legs with feet, and back with shoulders and the back of the neck. All of them are priced as six session courses so the cost of the full course is clear before you start.

Booking in Midtown Manhattan

New You Laser is at 45 West 46th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, a short walk from Rockefeller Center and the 47-50 Sts station, with Bryant Park, Times Square and Grand Central nearby. We are open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm, so sessions can be fitted around a working week.

Every course begins with a skin assessment, since the right settings depend on your skin tone and hair type. You can review combination pricing and current offers, or arrange a consultation to plan which areas to treat and in what order.

Bikini line, extended bikini and full Brazilian cover different amounts. Here is what each includes, what it costs in NYC, and how to prepare for the session.
